This seasons biggest trend is simply red. No, not the British soul band fronted my Mick Hucknall but rather, something loud, proud and in your face red. For someone who loves colour, I actually have very little red in my wardrobe. I associate it with one of those colours that jumps out at you and is quite in your face. Now that I come to think of it, I have no idea why I haven’t bought more red. One of my favourite red dresses I own is the Bombshell dress from Vivien of Holloway which I reviewed last year, you can read about it here.
Red is the colour of extremes. It’s the colour of passionate love, seduction, violence, danger, anger, and adventure. Our prehistoric ancestors saw it as the colour of fire and blood – energy and primal life forces. Filling me with exuberance, it feels energetic and fresh when I sift through my wardrobe choices.
This seasons trend
The Teddy Wide Leg Trousers from Voodoo Vixen are a perfect pair to see this seasons trend through. They remind me of Christmas. With a high rise fit, pockets and a flattering wide leg, they are ideal to wear from day to night. For the evening, could you imagine a nice metallic crop and some sky high heels? Enter possible future outfit… But for today, with a nice crisp white top – also from Voodoo Vixen, this outfit makes me feel like a snowdrop. I found the 60s wool poncho cape I am wearing at a vintage kilo sale a few years ago, in mint condition. The contrast between the navy and red jumps out at me each time I open my wardrobe, I love that. Like Red Riding Hood meets Call The Midwife – perfect.
Let the salt see the chips…
Like a good bag of fish and chips, you sometimes need some salt to add the fishing touch. Statement trousers are the salt, as long as you get the base right – they just add a final touch. Keep it simple with a plane coloured non fussy top for a more streamlined look. Colours I love with red are, grey, white, navy, black and blue. Of course, how much more festive can you get than pairing with a crisp Christmas green. You will be more jolly than Santa himself.
However you decide to style, stand up and stand fierce in this seasons most bold and beautiful trend.
