Sixties Vibes, Yesteryear memories and Spots c/o Madcap England // OOTD

‘Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away…. The Beatles had it figured out’

One reason why I am in love with vintage and all things yesteryear is just the pure nostalgia that comes with. If you follow/read my blog you will know that my style flits between a classy, more glamorous ladylike shape of the 1950s to a vibrant, fun-loving sassiness of the 1960s and everything in between.

In a nutshell, some of my favourite “yesteryear memories” have just got to be the amazing fashion of the times. They did not know it back then but with their larger than life prints, mod shapes and thick eyeliner – they would be paving the way for many decades to come in the fashion industry. We take so much inspiration from the last 9 decades, much of which transposes into what is on the catwalk today. They say: “he who dares, wins” and from researching some of the fashions back in the sixties this clearly resonates in my soul. I must share with you the fascinating tales behind this era and how it shaped the clothes that hang in our wardrobe today – but perhaps another time.

Madcap England is a mod brand that provide reproduction clothing with a 60s/70s edge. I particularly love their crazy printed mini and mod dresses – completely reminiscent of authentic sixties patterns and shapes. They are really affordable and their clothes are showstoppers – definitely worth checking out. Untitled

This red polka dot Minnie Mouse mini dress (aptly named “Minnie”) stood out a mile for me. The collar is a round stand up style that is much like the authentic vintage dresses that I see on my travels. It is a great tailored fit yet also a tad stretchy, which makes it really comfortable to wear. The length is fun and flirty but not too short and the matching belt sets off the pattern quite nicely.

I wore this all day when my family and I went to a local park for the day. It was so lovely to spend some quality family time – although my other half let slip that he had suggested the park as it had “Pokestops” there and wanted to try to expand his collection of the little critters that are storming the world currently. I felt really relaxed in this dress and didn’t really have to worry about re-fixing my outfit (you know where it rides up or creases etc) throughout the day.

I paired this with my favourite Royal Blue Jellies from and white frilly ankle socks. I also wore these rockabilly love heart earrings gifted from Southern City Belles. They glistened in the sun and fit in perfectly with the red white and blue theme. You can visit Southern City Belles here. I completed my outfit of the day with a quick beehive and matching blue ribbon in my hair.

‘When I say quick beehive – I really do mean quick!’

Just a bit of backcombing for the front and then twisted back sections and pinned randomly at the back. Finished off with a blue ribbon tied around it all. I have had so many of you ask / get in touch about hair tutorials and what / how I do my hair. Truth is, I know my hair quite well and what I can/can’t do with it or when it is a “good hair” day and if I didn’t follow other YouTubers for ideas then I would be LOST and you would probably just be seeing a standard ponytail each day!

Now although I do have a YouTube channel – I want to keep this more for my music, sad to say I won’t be posting any hair tutorials just yet. HOWEVER – because so many of you want to be “in the know” I will be writing a series of posts with hair tips, the BEST bloggers / YouTubers that I refer to and a whole list of ideas for you to try out on your own hair in the very near future. Hit “subscribe” on the side of my blog to stay informed about new posts!
